Inside: Former WWE champion returning as commentator

TOP STORIES TODAY
WWE has seen a wave of departures in recent months, but one exit that particularly shocked fans was that of Shayna Baszler. The five-time champion, who was teaming with Zoey Stark at the time, had been a reliable figure for the company throughout her tenure. In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Baszler confirmed that her release was not the result of her contract running out.
She revealed that she had only recently signed a new deal with WWE, which still had three years remaining. Instead, her departure came abruptly via a phone call informing her that she had been let go, ending her run with the promotion in an unexpected fashion.

On Monday Night RAW, Michael Cole made a surprising announcement that added even more excitement to the upcoming Triplemanía XXXIII. The legendary event will now feature a former World Champion joining AAA, marking a major addition to the card. Just days earlier, PWInsider had reported that Corey Graves would return to AAA as the lead commentator for the English broadcast team for the August 16 show. He’ll be joined in the booth by none other than WWE Hall of Famer JBL, making the broadcast lineup as stacked as the in-ring action. | Naomi has been in the spotlight recently following the cancellation of her scheduled match on RAW, raising concerns that she could be sidelined for some time. The Women’s World Champion was slated to defend her title against Stephanie Vaquer at Clash in Paris, but her status for the event remains uncertain. August holds added significance for the former Funkadactyl, as she celebrates an impressive milestone—16 years with WWE. Whether or not she competes in Paris, Naomi’s longevity and contributions to the company have made this month a notable chapter in her career. |
FROM THE RUMOR MILL
Naomi’s reign as Women’s World Champion has hit a setback following a concerning update on her health. After cashing in her Money in the Bank contract at Evolution 2025 to win the title, she was scheduled to defend it against IYO SKY on RAW. However, the match was canceled when it was announced that Naomi was not medically cleared to compete.
According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, rumors suggest her injury could be serious enough to keep her out “for a long time.” While WWE has yet to confirm the exact nature of her condition, the news has cast uncertainty over her championship reign and future appearances.

Karrion Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux’s exit from WWE has sparked mixed reactions among fans, with many initially believing it was part of a storyline. However, Kross has clarified that their departures are real. Speaking to Ariel Helwani, the former NXT Champion revealed that WWE did offer him a new contract, only to later withdraw the offer.
Kross also shared that he spoke directly with Triple H after learning the CCO was unhappy with him following WrestleMania 41. Although he wasn’t on the event’s card, he did interfere in the match between AJ Styles and Logan Paul. After the show, Kross voiced his frustration with the creative team for not booking him at WrestleMania, a move that seemingly soured his standing with Triple H and contributed to his WWE exit.

ANALYSIS CORNER
John Cena’s legendary WWE run is entering its final stretch, with his retirement tour now 70 percent complete and only 11 appearances remaining. The journey has been filled with major moments, including his first-ever heel turn and a historic 17th World Title win. Cena successfully defended the championship against longtime rivals Randy Orton and CM Punk before ultimately dropping it back to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2025.
WWE has kept the momentum of his farewell tour high, with Brock Lesnar making a shocking return to attack Cena, setting the stage for a potential clash between the two icons. However, before that rivalry unfolds, The Cenation Leader is booked to face Logan Paul at Clash in Paris 2025, a bout that could be among the final chapters of his storied career.
